The Candela C-POD is designed for unmatched efficiency and durability. Its two underwater permanent magnet motors deliver high-speed performance, while the silent electric direct-drive system eliminates the need for gears, oil changes, or frequent maintenance. It outlasts combustion engines and offers significant lifetime cost savings over the vessel’s lifespan.
The C-POD Electric Drive
Unmatched Silence and Smooth Operation.
By positioning the motors underwater, we eliminate the typical squeaking and whirring sounds associated with gearboxes and mechanical transmissions. Thanks to the Candela C-POD, our hydrofoil boats and ferries are the quietest electric vessels on the market, regardless of speed.
The result is a serene, whisper-quiet experience, where passengers glide effortlessly across the water, undisturbed by noise or vibrations. This sense of calm showcases the advanced engineering behind the C-POD, offering a new level of comfort and tranquility in boating.

Questions?
Here are the top five.
What is the Candela C-POD?
The Candela C-POD is a highly efficient, direct-drive electric pod motor specifically designed for hydrofoil boats. It’s built to provide the less drag, durability, silent operation and low maintenance.
How does the C-POD differ from traditional boat engines?
Unlike traditional combustion or outboard motors, the C-POD is completely electric and features a direct-drive system with no gears or transmission. As the motors are situated below the water, it does not have a traditional transmission. This eliminates many moving parts, resulting in extremely low maintenance. Additionally, its efficient design converts more electrical energy into thrust, reducing power consumption.
What kind of maintenance does the C-POD require?
The C-POD requires minimal maintenance due to its gearless and oil-free construction. The sealed, water-cooled motor design ensures that it operates with very little wear and tear over time, providing a long service life compared to traditional motors.
How powerful is the C-POD?
The C-POD delivers high efficiency at both low and high speeds, with the two contra-rotating propellers offering smooth, balanced thrust. This design allows the C-POD to efficiently propel Candela’s hydrofoils at higher speeds, while still being energy efficient for long-range cruising. The C-POD comes in two versions, the C-POD MAX for Candela P-12 and regular C-POD for C-8. The two C-POD MAX in P-12 provides 320 kW for take off, while the C-8’s motor outputs around 80 kW.
What environmental benefits does C-POD offer?
The C-POD is powered by electricity, producing zero emissions during operation. Additionally, it does not contain any lubricating oil, eliminating the risk for oil spills in sensitive marine environments.
